About the IIMC

The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta was established as the first national institute for Post-Graduate studies and Research in Management by the Government of India in November 1961 in collaboration with Alfred P. Sloan School of Management (MIT), the Government of West Bengal, The Ford Foundation and Indian industry. The vision of the Institute is to be an international centre of excellence in all facets of management education. Over the past four decades, IIM Calcutta has blossomed into one of Asia's finest business schools. It now has an enviable reputation for imparting high quality management education to some of the best minds in the country. It has been playing a pioneering role in professionalising Indian management through its post graduate and doctoral level programmes, executive training programmes, research and consulting activities.

Post golden jubilee celebration in 2011, IIM Calcutta undertook special initiative in going forward on internationalisation. To this effect the Institute has made substantial improvement in ranking and accreditation.

IIM Calcutta is the first and only triple accredited management school from India and one amongst 86 such business schools globally to have accreditation from Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) and Association of MBAs (AMBA). It is also the only Indian business school that is a member of the Global Alliance in Management Education (CEMS).

Worldwide, the Financial Times has ranked IIM Calcutta #23 in its Masters in Management Ranking 2018 and #49 in its Global MBA Ranking 2019. The Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA) – jointly offered by IIM Calcutta, IIT Kharagpur, and ISI Kolkata ranks 14th worldwide, according to 2019 QS World Universities Rankings. In India, IIM Calcutta was ranked third among management schools by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2019. It was also ranked second by Business Today's "India's best B-schools 2018 and by Outlook India's "Top 100 Management Schools" of 2018.

The Institute is self-reliant and has achieved the financial robustness needed to meet its operational and capital expenditure requirements.
