Overview
Young professionals graduating from professional programs with specialization in areas such as engineering, medicine, pure sciences, commerce, etc., enter the workplace with little exposure to managerial concepts and skills. For them, the initial immersion into the complex world of practice can be challenging. After a period unwavering commitment and attention to the details of one’s work, the executive in search of excellence requires fresh insights and inputs. There arises a need for sharpening skills and strengthening the value of one’s experience with theoretical buttress.
Towards this end, EPYP aims to equip these professionals with the appropriate managerial know-how. EPYP is designed to provide both perspective and managerial skills to successfully meet the challenges of today’s global business environment. The program provides an integrated overview of core business functions, key concepts, tools and techniques and enhances skills to provide a program participant critical inputs required to do well in select functional areas. The program would enhance the participant's ability to face current and future challenges of management and business administration.

Schedule & Duration
  • Classes will be conducted on Sunday 12.15 – 3.15 pm. Advanced Module Class timing will be twice a week (evenings or weekends) and announced later.
  • EPYP is of 1 year duration.
  • Campus visit will be of 5 days
Who Should Attend
Young working executives and professionals in business organizations may apply for this program. The program offers quality interactions with experienced executives, and peer group learning as average experience of the participants is around 4 years.

Eligibility
  • Applicants should be working professionals/self-employed. Must possess 1 - 5 years of work experience (full-time paid employment) post completion of graduation as on Application Closure date.
  • Full Time Degree Graduates (10+2+3) in any discipline with min. 50% marks [aggregate - considering results of all years (e.g. 3 or 4 together)] recognized by UGC/AICTE. Deviation – only AICTE approved full-time Hotel Management Diploma (10+2+3) will be considered.

Documentation
  • One Current Photograph
  • For Self Employed professionals - IT Return + MOA & AOA or Trade License or Partnership Deed is mandatory.
  • For other working professionals - Salary Slip (Current) + all joining & relieving letters (if applicable) is mandatory.
  • Mark Sheets of all years of Graduation is mandatory for all.

Admission Criteria & Profile Desired
An Entrance Test will be conducted to select eligible candidates to the programme. Candidates who qualify the above eligibility criteria will be considered for the Entrance Test.
Final Selection will be made basis the candidates’ performance in the Entrance Test. No deviations to the laid out Eligibility Criteria (unless otherwise mentioned above) will be considered.
Desired Proficiencies in the Candidate (in addition to the Eligibility Criteria) –
  • Proficiency in English since it would be the medium of instruction.
  • Basic numerical ability and mathematical skills - including Algebra (eg. Equation of Straight Line), Basic Differential & Integral Calculus and Ability to Interpret Graphs.
  • Ability to reason logically
  • General awareness – including knowledge of Industry
Program Directors/ Faculty
Prof. Rajesh Babu and Prof. Manisha Chakrabarty will direct the program along with selected faculty from IIM Calcutta.

Certification & Alumnus Status
IIM Calcutta shall carry out the examination and evaluation required for certification. IIM Calcutta will directly award a certificate to participants who complete the program successfully. Giving feedback is an integral part of the completion requirements of the program. Successful Candidates will be offered the IIMC – MDP Alumni status.

Pedagogy
The pedagogy will be highly interactive. It will leverage use of technology. It will consist of a judicious blend of lectures, real life case studies, quizzes and assignments. Examinations will be conducted for each course.

Evaluation Methodology
Examinations will be held by the Institute for each course. To complete the program successfully, participants will need to pass in all subjects (including projects, if any) and acquire a minimum of “Average” grade (out of four grades, namely, “Excellent”, “Good”, “Average” and “Poor”). Candidates successfully completing the program will get a completion certificate and grade sheet from IIMC.

Program Directors
Prof. Runa Sarkar

Runa Sarkar is an Assistant Professor in the Economics Group at IIM Calcutta, on lien from the Industrial and Management Engineering Department of IIT Kanpur.
Runa graduated as a chemical engineer from BITS Pilani, following which she pursued her Masters in environmental engineering at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After spending five years as an environmental consultant, she switched gears to academics. A Fellow of IIM Calcutta, Runa specializes in Managerial Economics and Corporate Environmental Behaviour. She has been teaching courses in Economics and Strategy and has authored several book chapters and journal papers.
In addition to her interest in the economics of the environment, Runa is also interested in socializing the use of ICT to build social capital in rural areas using the power of knowledge networks. She has co-edited the India Infrastructure Report 2008 which focuses on land, and is currently editing the India Infrastructure Report 2009, which looks at Infrastructure Development in a low carbon economy. Her interests lie in sustainable development where business interests are protected in consonance with the furthering of environmental and social objectives. Convinced that there is no ‘free lunch’, given the time horizons of business, her efforts in the development sector are to device mechanisms that make the lunch as cost effective as possible.


Prof. R. Rajesh Babu

R. Rajesh Babu is an Assistant Professor in the Public Policy & Management (PPM) Group of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta.
He obtained his Ph.D. and M.Phil. from the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, and has a LL.M. from the Cochin University, Kochi and LL.B. from Pondicherry University. He has been teaching courses on Legal and Regularity Environment in the PGP, PGPEX and PGP-VLMP programmes, and offers an elective in Law and Policy of International Trade. He has to his credit several book chapters and journal papers and has substantial international exposure. His research areas and interest include, WTO Law, general international law, constitutional law, international adjudication, property rights, investment and arbitration. Before joining IIM Calcutta, Dr. Rajesh Babu served as Senior Legal Officer in the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO), an intergovernmental organization (IGO) having its headquarters in New Delhi. He was also a Trainee in the Legal Affairs Division of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Geneva, Switzerland in 2002. He practiced as an Advocate in the High Court for nearly two years before perusing his research.
